It gives a notification using animation of icons as well as by a handy popup.You can set preferences by going to the options page. Select the icon you want to display when a notification comes (to suit your Chrome theme). Further you can specify if you want the popup box alert to be displayed. NOTE: If you go to your inbox and read at least one mail, after you receiving several new mails, the number of unread new mails will reset to zero changing the icon as well. You can log into Yahoo Mail and after that until you Logout, notification service would be available, even though you have closed the TA
